A bilingual reference of common taiko terms — gameplay, difficulty, hardware and community slang.
Gameplay
| DON / ドン / 咚 | Centre hit (red note). |
| KA / カッ / 咔 | Rim hit (blue note). |
| 連打 (Renda) | A roll — rapid alternating hits on the face. |
| 譜面 (Fumen) | The chart / note sequence of a song. |
| 全良 (Zenryo) | All-perfect — every note hit with the best timing. |
| 可 / 不可 | 'Good' / 'Miss' timing judgements. |
Difficulty
| かんたん / ふつう / むずかしい | Easy / Normal / Hard. |
| おに (Oni) | The hardest standard difficulty. |
| 裏 (Ura) | 'Reverse' — a harder hidden chart for some songs. |
| ★ (Stars) | Difficulty rating within a level (e.g. ★8). |
Hardware
| E-Box | The control box that converts drum hits into platform inputs. |
| Iron plate / 鐵板 | Metal striking plate used in arcade-grade drums for authentic feel. |
| Sensor / 感應器 | Detects hits; PCB sensor boards give the most precise input. |
Community Slang
| 公棒 (Official bachi) | Official Namco maibachi — the only WCS-legal sticks. |
| 私棒 (Personal bachi) | Your own/custom sticks. See The Maibachi Textbook. |
| AC | Arcade Cabinet — the original arcade machine. |
