ZhongTaiko User Manual PC E-Box

This guide will walk you through setting up your ZhongTaiko drum controller step by step. Your E-Box is the simplest version -- just plug in and play on PC!

1. What's in the Box

Before you start, make sure you have everything:

Item Qty Description
M8 Screw Set (bolt + nut + 2 washers) x4 Small bag of metal hardware
Wooden Stands x2 Curved wooden pieces that hold the drum up
E-Box + Cable x1 The electronic converter box that connects your drum to your device
ZhongTaiko Drum x1 The main drum unit
Tip: Keep the small screws in their bag until you're ready to use them -- they're easy to lose!

2. Assembly -- Attaching the Wooden Stands

The wooden stands raise the drum off the table and angle it for comfortable play.

  1. Flip the ZhongTaiko drum upside down so you can see the metal L-brackets on each side.
  2. Place one wooden stand on the outside of each L-bracket. The curved part should face outward.
  3. For each hole, use one complete screw set. Thread them in this order:
    Nut → Washer → Wooden Stand → L-Bracket → Washer → Bolt
  4. Tighten each screw firmly but don't over-tighten -- you don't want to crack the wood.
Tip: Hand-tighten first to make sure everything is aligned, then use a wrench for the final tightening. The drum should feel stable and not wobble when placed on a flat surface.

3. Connecting to Your PC

Your PC E-Box has two connectors:

  • Pentagon connector (the 5-sided one, on the bottom) -- connects to the drum cable
  • Rectangle connector (the USB one, on top) -- connects to your PC

  1. Plug the drum's cable into the Pentagon (5-sided) connector on the bottom of the E-Box.
  2. Plug the Rectangle (USB) connector on top into your PC's USB port.
  3. The LED on the E-Box should light up -- that means it's powered on and ready!
Tip: For the best response, plug directly into your PC's USB port rather than a USB hub. Some hubs don't provide enough power.

4. Sensitivity Adjustment

Inside your E-Box, there are 4 small blue knobs (called potentiometers or trim pots). These let you fine-tune how sensitive each zone of the drum is. You'll need a small flathead screwdriver to adjust them.

Why adjust sensitivity? If you're getting ghost notes (the game registers hits you didn't make) or missed hits (you hit the drum but nothing happens), sensitivity adjustment will fix it.

Knob Position (left to right) What It Controls In-Game Effect
1st — D (leftmost) Left KA (left rim) Blue notes — left rim hits
2nd — J Right DON (right face) Red notes — right center hits
3rd — K Right KA (right rim) Blue notes — right rim hits
4th — F (rightmost) Left DON (left face) Red notes — left center hits
How to turn them:
Clockwise (CW) = Less sensitive (turn this way if you're getting ghost notes / false hits)
Counter-clockwise (CCW) = More sensitive (turn this way if hits aren't registering)
Tip: Start by making very small adjustments -- about 1/8 of a turn at a time. Test in-game after each adjustment. It's much easier to dial in the right sensitivity with tiny changes than big ones!

5. Troubleshooting

⚠️ Troubleshooting

LED is on but no response in-game?

  1. Open Notepad on your PC and tap the drum -- you should see characters appearing. If you do, the E-Box works fine and the issue is in your game settings.
  2. Check that your game recognizes the controller (it shows up as a keyboard device).
  3. Try a different USB port -- front panel ports sometimes have issues.

LED doesn't light up?

  1. Make sure the Pentagon connector is fully pushed in -- it should click.
  2. Try a different USB port or cable.
  3. Check if the USB port works with other devices.
